If you are looking for a get rich quick solution then it's best you stop reading this article now but if you are used to hard work and are willing to give this your best shot then you are in the right place.
I have been working from home since July 2011 and I must say there have been sleepless nights, tears and frustration but my hard work is paying off. There have been and will be ups and downs but you can not give up, you must trod on.
I have to also tell you that I totally love working from home and trying new stuff too.
What not to do when trying to make money online.
There are several ways to make money online and people will offer scams, and other get rich quick schemes that will only serve to frustrate and anger you when you see they don't work. Here are some tips on what not to do:
- Don't get caught in the get rich quick idea
- Don't put your eggs into one basket such as relying on ad clicks and impressions only.
- Don't pay for money making software or those so called rich guys secrets to success ... red flag!
- Be careful about buying traffic or where you post your links
- Be careful with your credit card information
- Don't expect a quick turn around for medium to long term investments
- Don't give up the first time you fail
- Never duplicate/plagiarize someone else's work
1. Join a content site
There are quite a number of content sites on the internet and Hubpages is one of them. There is InfoBarrel, Wizzley, Brighthub and others.
These sites pay according to ad impressions, similar to the ad program we have here on HP. in order to be get paid you must have an adsense account which will also serve you well if you have your own blog or website.
Brighthub pays $10 per article each time you publish. Their guidelines are a little stricter than HP and your articles must go through a review and editorial process before being published but the pay is worth it.
Joining one of these sites might be slow going at first but the more you publish and the more traffic you get, you will earn more. As your content ages you will get more adsense clicks also.
Here on Hubpages there are contests and now we have the Apprenticeship program that we get to earn a little extra from. So it does pay to join a content site.
2. Place Ads on your blogs and websites
You need an Adsense account or become affiliated with some other advertiser to do this. As a matter of fact you must also have an Adsense account to make money from impressions when you join a content site like HP.
Google Adsense gives you the opportunity to place their ads on your website or blog for Adsense clicks and impressions.
Earning on the internet can be slow going at first but you have to keep at it. Making money from adsense can take some time as you build your online reputation. First you must find your niche market and figure out what people want. You must decide what to do with the website or blog. Are you going for content or sales? After which you market your website or blog via social media, backlinks or adwords. Warning - be careful about where you place your links and never buy traffic or use those traffic exchange sites.
Note that new websites and blogs will take some time to be indexed by Google and other search engines. The key is to keep the content fresh and your site up to date. Blogs need to be updated often and websites need to stay fresh too. Keep adding pages to your site and update the existing pages when needed.
3. Freelance
Maybe an easier way to go for many because the money is a little more secure than waiting on clicks and impressions.
Again as a newbie, your freelance career might take some time to take off but you must keep trying. You must also do great work to get good feedback.
I recently bid on a very small project to be completed in only one day. The project was about finishing someone's short story. Within a few minutes of me bidding the client emailed me to say that if no one beats my bid or my customer feedback they would hire me. See email snapshop as proof. I say this to encourage you to do excellent work or your clients will not leave excellent reviews. Some clients will choose you based not only on your low bids but also on your ratings.
Update on job: The client chose me based on my client reviews, the many links and attachments (work samples) and the proposal I submitted.
4. Sell items on your blogs or websites
The truth is I am not very familiar with the entirety of affilate marketing but what I do know is that you can earn with eBay and Amazon.com and others by placing their items on your blogs or websites.
Some companies will pay per impressions in addition to the commission you will earn if someone purchases their product.
I have both Amazon and ebay on some of my blogs and some articles here on HP. When your views get to every 1000 you also get a little something. Ebay also pays per click.
I am also a Google affiliate so I place ads from their customers on my blogs and websites too. Amazon.com also allows you as an associate to place ads on your site and blogs.
Another great way to earn by affiliation is to sign up with Commission Junction. They are the internet's biggest affiliate site. You get to be affiliated with huge companies like Seers where you place ads and product links on your site.
5. Have an eCommerce website
There are companies that allow you to resell their products on your own site. Some will even offer you a free site and set it up for you. You can choose one product or a set of products.
You can also set up an eCommerce website with the Amazon.com aStore. Godaddy also offers a way to become an affilate and promote their services on your own website.
Your ecommerce site should also have lots of content too. I learned the hard way when I tried to do an adwords campaign to promote my site. I was told that my site was a bridge because it didn't have enough content and I was encouraging visitors to click and go to another site. After being reviewed they told me to add lots of valuable content so that visitors will spend time on the site. The content should be reviews, description of the items, info on the best way customers can benefit from the site and so forth. The site is being sorted out now and is down temporarily but will be up soon.
6. Sell your own items online
eBay, Amazon.com, Craigslist and Etsy are platforms that are available for you to sell your own items. You can even promote your items through your own website or blog. I am sure there are other market places online to list your products.
You can also sell your photos online through Fotolia, Photostockplus and others.
In the case of ebay, your items will be auctioned and you may not get your preffered price. I sold my domain there and only made $0.99. I don't know what happened. The domain was paid for a full year and I paid $11.99 for the dot com domain. What gives?
You set your own price on Amazon.com and sell as many products as you like. I also love making jewellery so am planning on doing that as soon as my collection reaches a certain amount.
7. Make a video
This is the newest craze. Make a video, upload it to YouTube. If it is popular enough you can place ads on it and make some money. You will be paid by the advertising company.
Just an update:
I uploaded my rice and peas video and one of the videos I made about Jamaica and they are now running ads ... lol Wish me luck with that.
8. Offer something of value and ask for a donation
This idea is very popular with blogs. People will offer valuable information or free stuff and in turn ask for a donation to keep the website or blog going. You can ask for as little as a dollar and people who could not otherwise afford what you have to offer will be willing to pay.
This is a very effective way of earning some cash without actually selling something.
NOTE: Do not ask for a donation or buy me a beer or coffee if your site is already monetized by running ads or selling stuff. So be careful not to shoot yourself in the foot by appearing too greedy. You might chase your visitors away.
Do you think I should ask for a "beer" on my recipe blog?
9. eBook publishing
Consider publishing an eBook. It could be a collection of poems, short stories, how to articles, advice, wellness, marketing strategies, just about anything.
All you have to do is research your market and see what people want and examine what you have to offer. There are different eBook publishing platforms you can use.
Consider these: Barnes and Noble, Kindle direct publishing and Smashwords.
10. Buy and sell domains
I understand that there is money to be made doing this. You can buy a domain or domain name revamp the domain and resell for a profit.
If your website or blog has been up for a while you may consider selling for a profit. When you buy a website or blog you fix it up and make it look good, get the traffic going and then sell it to the highest bidder.
